Why are legendary wineries selling their first run product at a discount to anyone? In Napa, the brand name is everything, and wineries go to great lengths not to discount their branded wines and protect their pricing – some wineries will even dump wine their distribution channels can’t absorb rather than sell at a discount. Others will sell their finished production, at huge discounts, to wine brokers and private label companies such as CamX Wine and DeNegoce (I promise, more later 😉 ) – it helps their cash flow and frees up their barrels and production equipment for the incoming harvest.
