Sky dancing with unicorns!

Amelia, Ella and Busha are sharing some milk and happy face cookies. (Why make plain cookies when we can make them smiley faces? We smile when we make them, and they smile back at us when we eat them!)

“I had a dream about you two last night,” Busha begins. “Do you like to hear stories from dreams?”

“You can tell us your dream, Busha,” Amelia answers. “My mouth is going to be full of cookes and milk anyhow.” Ella, whose mouth is already packed and spilling cookies, nods.

Busha starts, “I dreamt I was in a big grassy field, the kind you see in front of castles in ‘Once upon a time…’ stories. Such a lovely feeling, being there – the fresh smell from the grass, a light breeze like a loving touch on my face, puffball clouds floating across the blue as a lake blue sky.”

“I was so enjoying myself, it took awhile before I heard the laughter behind me, coming closer and closer. I turned around just in time to get out of the way of — Amelia and Ella galloping by me…on unicorns!”

“I want to ride unicorns, Busha,” Ella chirps up, between chews of chewy cookies. “Can we go ride unicorns sometime?”

Busha smiles. “We certainly can in dreams, Ella, and you are a fantastic unicorn rider. I was amazed at you and Amelia both – you galloped by me, then took your unicorns dancing high in the sky. It was so much fun to see you two — weaving back and forth across each other’s path, up and down and upside down, loop-de-looping, manes and tails of your unicorns swooshing and flapping. I felt so warm inside and happy, watching the beautiful play unfolding above me!”

“Finally, you all decided to take a break. You landed softly, hopped off your unicorns, and walked over to give me big hugs. We all tumbled to the cool grass, full of laughter, bubbling over with what I saw and what you felt. I heard myself say, ‘that was quite the performance, who won?'”

“I loved when you both looked at me, and the exact same words popped out of both of your mouths.”

“Well, who won?” Ella asked.

“My darlings,” Busha continued, “the wisdom in your words melt my heart. I asked who won, and you both answered, ‘Who cares?’ I was so touched, I woke up, and that same feeling of love and appreciation is still in my heart. When I forget what’s important, you two are always there to remind me.”

Amelia nods and gives Busha a big hug. Ella finishes her milk, and asks, “Next time we’re sky dancing with unicorns, can I ride the pink one?”

A big smile starts in Busha’s heart and spreads all the way to her arms as she hugs them both.
